I won 14 prizes, the highest by any writer, in the XVI All India Competition for Writers of Children's Books: 2001. The competition was organised by Children's Book Trust (CBT), New Delhi, a trailblazer in the field of children's literature. I won prizes in seven categories.
In the competition conducted by CBT in 1999 I had bagged four prizes.
The award winning stories have a found a place in several books published by CBT as a part of its prestigious Golden Set series.
I had the privilege of being invited to chair a working session at the Asian Conference on Story Telling to Promote the Reading Habit in Children, held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, in September, 2005.
At the end of the session I was felicitated by Mrs. Neelima Sinha, President, Association of Writers and Illustrators of Children (AWIC).
In September 2007, I was invited to address a plenary session at the International Conference on Story Telling to Promote the Reading Habit in Children, held at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. I also had the opportunity to tell a tale at the ‘Story Telling Festival’ held as a part of the conference. The kids loved the story as much as I enjoyed telling it.
Both the Conferences were organised by AWIC.
I had the rare honour of presenting a paper at the 31st IBBY World Congress-2008 held in Copenhagen, Denmark in the second week of September, 2008. The paper won rave reviews and accolades both for the substance as well as the style of presentation. I had gone on an invitation by the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) to address the Congress which was attended by writers, publishers, illustrators and research scholars from 71 countries across the globe.
Terror in Fun City was launched at Landmark, Apex Plaza, Chennai on 9th May, 2008 at a glittering function organized by Landmark in association with Glorioustimes, a Chennai based writers group and Navneet Publications (India) Ltd. Mr.N.V.Subbaraman Editor, Young Poets, presented the first copy of the book to Mr.Shreekumar Varma, an award winning writer, poet and playwright. Mrs. Glory Sasikala Franklin, noted poet and moderator of Glorioustimes coordinated the proceedings. The formal launch was followed by a book reading session by yours truly!
